The gardens at Casa Duran have all been built to create useful and interesting spaces and all virtually maintenance free.
There are four principal areas; the herb/kitchen garden, the wildlife area, the pool terrace lawned garden and the terraced fruit tree garden.
The top terrace area of the fruit garden is planted with Orange, Figs, and Canary bananas. There is also a quiet sitting area with spectacular views to Salobreña Beach.
The wishing well is set on a mezzanine built from natural stone and has a Lychee tree providing a touch of the Far East.
The middle garden opens from the front terrace of the Guest apartment and has Grapefruit, Mango, Pears and Passion Fruit. The views from here are equally spectacular.
This view of the middle fruit garden is from the apartment front terrace and shows access to the wishing well.
The lower fruit garden is accessed from the pool terrace and is set with Lemons and Nisporo, this area is sheltered by an established Hibiscus hedge.
The pool garden is lawned and has a Pomegranate tree as its center piece, there is also a Kumquat tree, seedless grapes and various shrubs including a well established Jasmine which fills the air with perfume on summer evenings.
The kitchen garden is a retreat from the heat of the sun. Planted with aromatic shrubs and fruit as well as being shaded by conifer and Canary Pine - a very tranquil setting.
There are grapes & Carisa, sage, and oregano plus the wonderful aroma of Gardenia to enjoy in the kitchen garden. It overlooks the nature garden which is attracive to many species of bird life, squirrels and rabits. In the early summer the wild life setting attracts some exotic varieties of butterfly.
The gardens were designed from inception to be easy to maintain bearing in mind the current owner was likely to be away from the property for prolonged periods.
Most of the surface areas are covered with 10cm of marble chippings to almost eliminate the growth of weeds. Watering is via various automatic irrigation systems that are battery controlled.
